CORE KNOWLEDGE CHARTER SCHOOL GOVERNING COUNCIL

 July 17, 2000

 

The regular meeting of the Core Knowledge Charter School Governing Council was held on July 17, 2000 at Badger Ridge/Core Knowledge Commons.  Notice requirements were met and a quorum was present.  Governing Council members in attendance:  Marykay Zimbrick, Eric Bayler, Leslie Gilbert and Kelli Kreienkamp (teacher representative).  The meeting was called to order by President Marykay Zimbrick and the mission statement was read.  The minutes were approved as read.

 

Consent Agenda Items

The consent agenda items were approved.  Items included both May and June Minutes (Kelli Kreienkamp abstained since she did not attend the May or June meetings), confirmation of electronic vote to hire Lynn Schweber for 7th grade position, confirmation of PASS vote on Badger Ridge (John Berge and parent representative) participation on Governing Council, and distribution of notebooks to new members.

 

Budget Report

Marykay reported that Program Support Manager position was approved at 85% and Spanish Teacher at 51%.  She also clarified that Administrative Assistant is at 50%.  Each Governing Council member also received a copy of the 2000-01 budget. 

 

Liaison Reports

Round Table – Sandy Hoel reported that parents met to discuss the governing structure of Governing Council and P.A.S.S.  She hopes to receive good information from the discussion groups that occurred.  She will collate the information prior to the second Parent Round Table meeting.  The August 14th meeting will entail agenda items for the start of school.  Marykay requested that information sheets about the start of school and registration cards be sent in the August packet to parents.  Workbook fee information will also go out with this mailing. 

 

Middle School Site Council  The Site Council does not meet in the summer. 

 

Old Business

Hiring committee – Marykay reported that the 6th and 7th grade teachers have been hired and the committee is 75-80% confident about an offer to an 8th grade teacher.  A demonstration still needs to take place prior to any confirmation.  Instructional Assistant applications have come in and the committee hopes to set up interviews next week.

 

Curriculum committee – Eric Bayler reported on the math curriculum committee’s efforts to review both the Saxon and Integrated Math Program in eighth grade.  Eric hopes to consult with math professionals on curriculum comparisons.  The committee will meet August 10 at the Verona Public Library to discuss and formulate a plan for the 2000-01 school year.  The committee will prepare an agenda for CKCS middle school parent meeting scheduled for August 14 prior to the Parent Round Table.  The committee will also set up a meeting with the high school math program in September to discuss issues of students entering high school.

 

New Business

Marykay Zimbrick announced the new P.A.S.S. officers.  Marykay Zimbrick is President, Nye Pelton is Vice President, Amy Willson is Treasurer and Leslie Gilbert is Secretary.

 

Eric Bayler motioned to elect the following interim officers for Governing Council:  Marykay Zimbrick as President, Leslie Gilbert as Vice President and Amy Willson as Timekeeper.  The new officers will be elected when the final Governing Council structure is in place.  Leslie Gilbert seconded the motion.  Approved.

 

Ingrid Beamsley reported that information to be sent in the start of school mailing needs to be given to her at CKCS by August 4th.  The mailing will go out the following workday.  It was requested to have parents’ e-mail addresses included on registration cards.  Sandy Hoel will work with Peg Geisfeldt to send a post card mailing to all CKCS middle school parents regarding the August 14 math curriculum meeting prior to the Parent Round Table.

 

The next CKCS Governing Council meeting will be on Monday, August 14, 2000 at 7:30 p.m. at Badger Ridge/ Core Knowledge LMC.
