CORE KNOWLEDGE CHARTER SCHOOL GOVERNING COUNCIL

September 11, 2000

 

The regular meeting of the Core Knowledge Charter School Governing Council was held on September 11, 2000 at Badger Ridge/Core Knowledge LMC.  Notice requirements were met and a quorum was present.  Governing Council members in attendance:  Greg Anderson, Eric Bayler, Leslie Gilbert, Jessica Monk, Nye Pelton, Amy Willson and Marykay Zimbrick.  The meeting was called to order by President Marykay Zimbrick and the mission statement was read.  The minutes were approved as read.

 

 

Budget Report

Fiscal year 2000 and fiscal year 2001 budget reports were distributed.  Ingrid will check for substitute budget expected for Julie Bie’s maternity leave by next meeting.  Total additional hours used by Instructional Assistants in August and September will also be noted at next meeting.  Ingrid Beamsley reported that Jessica Monk’s additional reimbursement for Oregon conference was sent to Central Office on 9/5/00.  Ingrid will check with Diane Bauman for a timesheet on work she did in August for CKCS.  Greg Anderson reported that LMC and technology budget is coming out of the transition budget according to Chris Murphy.  Expenses for next year’s budget will be looked into starting in January. 

 

Consent Agenda Items

Leslie Gilbert motioned to approve August minutes.  Seconded by Marykay Zimbrick.  Approved.

 

Governing Council/Site Council Mutual Representation

Marykay reported that Badger Ridge Middle School (BRMS) will have a representative on CKCS Governing Council.  Governing Council will vote on new by-law update to include representative from BRMS in October meeting.  CKCS is also looking for a parent representative to sit on BRMS site council.

 

Program Support Manager Update

Ingrid reported that CKCS is currently applying for an Arts-In-School grant, SAGE grant and Comprehensive School Reform grant.  CKCS videos will be ready Friday and will be distributed to different sites in Wisconsin.

 

Director’s Report

Greg Anderson passed out a working agreement between BRMS and CKCS.  Greg reported that under building accommodations, a punch list still needs to be done by J.P. Cullen.  Ken Kitzke will also construct a fence by the playground area.  Joe Hubbard is working on installing items in the classrooms.  Mitel also needs to complete voice mail and phones in the building.  Greg also reported that enrollment is at 310 students for K-8 as of 9/11/00.  Flyers mentioningngs in CKCS were given to every resident in the King James Apartment Complex.

 

Curriculum Update

Eric Bayler reported that Michelle Molzahn, Linda Christensen, Jim Guy and Chris Uelmen met on August 31 regarding the math curriculum.  A letter summarizing the committee’s review will be copied and distributed to the math committee.  The committee reviewed how transcripts are documented and spoke about assessment.

 

The committee is currently trying to address how the Algebra ½ students will integrate into the VAHS Integrated Mathematics program.

 

The CKCS math curriculum committee is still looking at reviewing the Saxon and Core Knowledge curriculums vs. Wisconsin standards.

 

Greg will look into having someone replace Cindy Klein during recess, so she may help Lynn Schweber with curriculum development.

 

Renewal Update

Marykay reported that November 1 is the target date to complete the CKCS renewal contract.

  

The next CKCS Governing Council meeting will be on Monday, October 9, 2000 at 7:30 p.m. at Badger Ridge/CKCS LMC.
