CKCS GOVERNING COUNCIL MINUTES

Members in attendance: Gary Shmerler, Bob McNallie, Celeste Matsushima, Chris Uelmen, Pennae Fawcett, Ed Burnham, Whitney Schorr Members absent: Joe McShane, Rita Wise, Michael Kosorok, Laura Schultz, Laila Tabrizi Others: Bill Conzemius, Ingrid Beamsley, Pat Krantz, Leslie Gilbert, MaryKay Zimbrick

 

 

  1. READING OF THE MISSION STATEMENT—Gary Shmerler
    2.

    CKCS will be a public education option for parents and teachers in the Verona Area School District where students will develop strong learning skills and a broad base of knowledge through the use of proven educational materials and programs, in a safe and structured environment.

  2. AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
    1. Superintendent Bill Conzemius: voiced support for CK Charter School as well as the importance of the relationship between the Charter School and the District being that of a partnership.
    2. Bob McNallie: spoke on his decision- making process, commitment to CKCS, and on his availability for questions on any issues.
    3. Gary Shmerler: made an extremely important statement regarding the CKCS GC and it’s role in the recent hiring process: "The GC upon understanding that Leslie Gilbert’s application had not been submitted to the hiring committee, immediately voted and insured that the hiring process was followed. The hiring committee comprised of parent volunteers, teachers and administrators met and reviewed Leslie’s application."
    4. Leslie Gilbert: addressed the GC once more after having met with Bill and Bob yesterday to be sure she had a chance to respond to any concerns about her application.

III. BOARD ISSUES

    1. Hiring Committee Recommendations:

1. On behalf of the hiring committee Whitney Schorr made a motion that we accept the recommendation of Cathy Childers for the 4th Grade position. Seconded by Ed Burnham. Vote: 7 YES, 0 NO . The motion is passed.

2. On behalf of the hiring committee Whitney Schorr made a motion that we accept the recommendation of Jeff Houser for the 6th Grade position. Seconded by Bob McNallie. Vote: 3 YES, 3 NO , 1 Abstention. The motion is not passed.
